Visual Studio Code and a terminal feature are now available on CARC OnDemand!
Visual Studio Code (VSCode) is a streamlined code editor meant for handling tasks such as debugging and version control. This versatile editor is compatible with macOS, Windows, and Linux, and includes built-in Git commands. CARC users are now able to run VSCode on the clusters as a desktop application via OnDemand. This addition allows users to utilize the full potatntial of CARC's HPC systems and debug issues that only occur in the HPC environment.
The addition of the terminal to OnDemand allows users to run command line programs seamlessly on HPC clusters. Instead of submitting jobs to Slurm and waiting for an output, users can now run commands on the terminal application and see their results printed on the screen, making it especially useful for programs that require command line input interactivly.
Instructions for running Visual Studio Code and the terminal on CARC OnDemand can be found in our Getting Started with CARC OnDemand user guide.
